Hunkered Down
February 5th, 2011 - 4:47 pmThe University of Pennsylvania’s undergraduate team left their presentation today and, though fighting fatigue with adrenaline-powered energy, the team obliged me with a few moments of their time. Stating that the primary challenge of the weekend was travel and locating transportation from their hotel to campus (who knew the challenges of finding a Winston-Salem cab at 4 am?), the team’s primary advice was ‘rent a car!’ Although the team had anticipated taking breaks for rest,...
Caffeinated … Yet Cool and Calm
February 5th, 2011 - 4:30 pm“Team 7 For All Mankind” from Wake Forest University emerged from their graduate case presentation buoyed by many things: a sense of accomplishment and adrenaline at a job well done, a great team dynamic, and a healthy dose of caffeine. The team was certainly very positive about their performance, but were also candid about its challenges. As they pointed out, they could have never predicted all of the questions and scenarios the marketing judges would...

February 5th, 2011 - 4:00 pmThe team from the London Business School had every intention of taking a methodical approach to their case but they quickly realized that it wasn’t going to happen. “We wanted to be structured and defined,” Michael Kong said. “But when you have five creative geniuses in the room you quickly start looking to create the next big idea and the next big thing.” Each member believed that the VF case was challenging, not only because...

It’s All in the Details
February 5th, 2011 - 3:30 pmThe Northeastern University undergraduate team appreciated the depth embedded in the judge’s questions after they presented their case. “We were happy to delve into our analysis,” one member declared. The team greatly enjoyed how their case allowed them to “create a lifestyle and a new entity.” Though each showed visible signs of exhaustion, the slight smiles on their faces showed a sense of pride in what they had produced. “We’re here to compete,” one member...
Complex Carbs to the Rescue
February 5th, 2011 - 3:00 pm“Team Reef” from Boston College left their case presentation definitely tired, but very confident that while it had been a challenging 36-hour process it had gone well. With noses buried in the case, laptop screens, and maybe a pro forma statement here and there, there was little time for sight-seeing let alone anything else. However, the team did mention being able to visit a grocery store that provided them with the various complex carbohydrates they...
